| OKTOBERFEST
in München (Munich), Bayern (Bavaria), Deutschland (Germany) |
| Oktoberfest in Munich, in the state of
Bavaria in southern Germany - temporary structures are
erected in a huge city park by each brewery in the district |
| Elaborately costumed horses draw beer wagons through the crowds |
Me, in front of one of the beer wagons |
| Each brewery has a different style and atmosphere, indoor or outdoor,
typically with large tables, where anyone is welcome to sit ... and lots
of beer and food! |
Inside some of the many "beer tents" (See
Wikipedia article) |

| Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany |
| The medieval walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber
overlooks the Tauber river |

| Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany |
| Innsbruck, Austria |
| Austrian Schillings
(now replaced by the Euro) |
| The town of Innsbruck lies at
the base of the Austrian Alps, spanning the Inn river
(the name literally means the
Inn Bridge) |
| It is a town of old, narrow streets, filled with
history |
This building is known as the Wedding Cake House for obvious reasons |
| The Hotel Goldener Adler has hosted royalty and famous people for hundreds
of years |
On this plaque are names and dates from 1548 to 1987, including the
King of Tunis, King Ludwig of Bavaria, Nicolo Paganini, Jean Paul Sartre, U.S. Astronaut
and Senator John Glenn, just to drop a few names |
| As the sign says, the "New Home" was
built in 1420 |
I am always fascinated by the food displays in the
markets |
| In the Stubai Valley, Austria |
| Hotel Milderer Hof, the inn where I stayed in Neustift |
This is probably the most serene and beautiful area
I've ever seen. Looking down the Stubai Valley of Austria,
toward the town of Neustift. This is one valley over from where the Von Trapps of
Sound of Music fame actually lived. (Yep, that's my cap
hanging on the sign!) |
| Returning to Neustift from the mountain top (that's my
foot!) |
| Venice, Italy |
| St. Mark's Square, Venice - the Doge's Palace
and the Campanile tower behind me, St. Mark's is famous for its people and pigeons,
as you can see |
... Did I say pigeons? |
| I climbed up the Campanile tower and saw Venice from that
spectacular viewpoint |
Riding in a gondola on the canals of Venice is truly unique!
The Rialto Bridge, at right, was built in 1590 |
| St. Mark's Basilica is awesome, outside and inside |
| The island of Murano is Venice's
glass blowing center |
